The England cricket team has pulled off a spectacular win in their recent One Day International (ODI) series against Sri Lanka.
The series saw England taking on Sri Lanka in a five-match ODI series, which they won 4-0. After the impressive victory, England have now claimed the top spot in the ICC rankings for ODIs.
The series began with England’s victory in the first ODI in Southampton, with the home side winning by a margin of 19 runs. England then went on to win the second ODI in Leeds by a margin of seven wickets. The third and fourth ODIs were played in the Rose Bowl in Southampton, with England winning by 57 runs and four wickets respectively.
The final ODI was played in Bristol, with England winning by a margin of eight wickets. This win was particularly impressive as it saw England chasing down a total of 320 runs, a record-breaking total for the ODI series.
England’s star performer during the series was undoubtedly Joe Root, who scored two centuries and was awarded the Man of the Series award. He was ably supported by Jos Buttler, who scored two half-centuries, and Ben Stokes, who scored a century in the fourth ODI.
The series was an impressive display of England’s strength and depth in their batting lineup, with Sam Billings, Jonny Bairstow and Moeen Ali also chipping in with important contributions.
The bowlers also played their part, with Mark Wood taking eight wickets, Jofra Archer taking seven wickets, and Tom Curran and Adil Rashid taking three wickets each.
The England cricket team now move on to the ICC World Cup, where they will be looking to build on the success of this series and take home the trophy.
